Brewery tours are always popular among holidaymakers heading to beer-producing cities - and the Carlsberg Brewery in Copenhagen is no exception. The brewery was established in the Danish capital in 1847 by J C Jacobsen.

Carl Jacobsen had the original made after becoming infatuated with a dancer who starred in the ballet production of The Little Mermaid and donated it to the city in 1913. Other highlights include the stables, where Carlsberg keeps its Jutland dray horses. It was this type of horse that was originally used by the brewery to deliver its products back when it first started operating.
